  1. Very true about what makes a true Web Designer. Glad you shared this and make people know what a Web Designer is all about.

What else do you think might be missed out on that list? Post it here.

I’d argue with a few of your points, why is one not a webdesigner when he doesn’t code up his designs?
Why would I have to name an alternative to Photoshop to be a succesful webdesigner?
What is wrong with coding in dreamweaver? As long as one does it by hand, you might as well do it in Frontpage, it doesn’t matter.

Really a blogpost which hasn’t been thought through, as quite half of your points are either irrelevant or just not true.

    Hai Daan.

#1. Coding your website: Ok, how can you have a website if you never code them? (Translate your PSD design into HTML).

#2. Good Designer vs Great Designer: That would be the differences between a good designer and a great designer.

#3. Dreamweaver: Dreamweaver, as I used to use when I started to learn website and databases, have the features that you can use easily when it comes to the database connection, forms, etc… Some people tends to use them without having extra initiative to learn to hand code them. Again, this bring us back to the question “Are you a good designer or a great designer?”

    Thanks for the constructive comment.

Well, you can outsource your coding jobs but that certainly doesn’t make one a better or worse *designer*. Besides that as long as you handcode, what’s wrong with Dreamweaver, as long as you handcode what’s wrong with Microsoft Frontpage? Sure, there are different ways of using that application, but then it’s a bit unthoughtful to call everyone using Dreamweaver a bad designer.

Also, I for one like Firebug a lot more than the webdeveloper toolbar. Would that make me a bad designer?

As I said, a fun post but some points could’ve been thought through a little more.

You are right. This suppose to be a fun post and I think so and so do others.
I never said anything about BAD of WORST designer. Read back the topic, it’s all about FUN & GENERAL comparison between web designer wannabe (newbie) and a mature (professional) web designer.

You are saying you are not using both (Firebug, Web Developer)?? That’s sad, because you can get MORE if you have both. After all, they are not the same exact function/tools to be compared.

Are you using Google Page Speed of YSlow? That is something you can compare with.
Maybe you are using Dreamweaver, that heavy application just for your text editor, where you can get a much more good and free application out there rather than spending your money on that piece of application. I am using a free lite text editor and still manage to develop my site the effective and efficient way.
